About

Hello! I'm Kendra, the dyer behind Olga and Odd. You can find me online as Kendra Makes. I make and sell all items out of my home in Birch Hills, SK where I live with my husband, four kids and active English Springer Spaniel.

I learned to knit and crochet as a child, making clothes for my beanie babies and granny squares to make blankets in Girl Guides. In high school I was known to make and wear a variety of crochet toques (beanies) to class every day. After a little break through University, I returned to yarn crafts when my oldest daughter was born in 2014. I couldn't get enough knitting and gained skills through countless sweaters, socks, shawls and baby clothes. Through that time I was also dyeing fabric for baby wraps and the first yarn I dyed was cotton for a baby wrap weaving project!

Shortly after that I ventured into acid dyes for wool, beginning with dyeing non super wash wool for diaper covers before moving into dyeing sock yarns. In 2017 I dyed my first self striping skein, wrapping the yarn around kitchen chairs for a two colour repeat. I was hooked! This lead to years of practice and learning.

In 2016 I started a YouTube channel, Kendra Makes, which has documented my crafty journey and includes tutorials and updates throughout the years.

I have sold yarn on Etsy on and off through these past few years, taking long breaks as new babies have joined my family but always coming back to my passion for colour and dyeing.

I look forward to sharing new colours and ideas for many years to come!
